Welcome to the English Language Education Study Program (ELED) of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY). Established in 2010, PBI received an A accreditation in 2016. Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah SWT, at the end of 2021 PBI UMY can again maintain its A accreditation title.
PBI UMY has qualified teaching staff in the field of English education with doctoral and master degrees from leading universities at home and abroad. PBI UMY always maintains it’s commitment to become a study program that produces graduates who have superior English and pedagogical competence and prioritizes the cultivation of soft skills in teaching and learning activities so as to produce graduates with noble character.
PBI UMY has implemented an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum with Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program approach which ensures that PBI UMY is committed to providing the best service and education so that PBI UMY graduates are expected to be able to answer the demands of the world of work.

History
As a form of active participation in accordance with the Law on the National Education System and the direction of the goals of the Muhammadiyah Persyarikatan Movement, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta has developed a new study program, namely the English Language Education Department (PBI UMY). English Language Education Deparment was established in 2010 based on the “Surat Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional No. 34/D/O/2010”, dated March 25, 2010. English Language Education Department was first established under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Along with the development and addition of language departments within the university, the Faculty of Language Education was established in 2013. So since 2013, the English Language Education Department has been established under the Faculty of Language Education. In August 2014, the English Language Education Department received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education with Surat Keputusan Nomor: 377/SK/BAN-AT/AKRED/S/IX/2014. The entire PBI study program academic community works well together to prepare for re-accreditation. In 2016, PBI Study Program received accreditation A from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education with Surat Keputusan Nomor: 2863/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XII/2016. In 2021, the PBI Study Program received A accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education with Surat Keputusan Nomor: 12830/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/S/XII/2021.
The aim of the establishment of the English Language Education Department is to participate in quality improvement, facility support, provision of teaching staff for teachers in Indonesia, including English teachers, who can apply their theoretical knowledge in good and correct teaching. In addition, this study program is projected to develop an information technology-based English teaching curriculum so as to be able to produce English teachers who are capable of responding to the challenges of changing times, especially in the field of English education in Indonesia.
