The learning process is a series of joint processes between lecturers and students to acquire knowledge in accordance with the study material as indicated by the mastery of competence. For this reason, the learning process includes the following:
- Competency-based learning refers to achieving mastery of Basic Competence for each subject within one semester
- Competency-Based Learning uses a Student-Centered Learning approach to provide flexibility for students to develop their academic potential
- Students are required to take part in learning and other academic activities according to their study plan in an orderly and regular manner according to applicable regulations
- Mastery of all Basic Competencies by students is re-evaluated to determine mastery of the established competency standards
- Lecturers or Lecturer Teams who teach courses are fully responsible for the running of the learning process, tests and assessments
- In the case of incomplete mastery of Basic Competency, students are given the opportunity to take remedial exams
The study plan is carried out by students with the approval of the Academic Advisor (DPA) so that student study progress can be directed under the guidance of the DPA. Provisions for the study plan are regulated as follows:
- Student study plans in the form of courses to be taken by students written on the Kartu Rencana Studi (KRS), and must obtain approval from the Academic Advisor (DPA);
- With certain considerations, KRS that has been approved by the DPA can be changed or canceled by the DPA and or students within a specified period as stated in the academic calendar.
- The courses listed in the KRS are calculated in the maximum study load each semester;
- In certain circumstances DPA can adopt a special policy regarding taking courses in the interest of student progress
Class implementation is carried out with the following conditions:
- Class implementation in one semester are held 16 times face to face including competency exams
- Lecturers are obliged to give lectures at least 14 times in one semester per subject
- Other things that have not been regulated can be made between lecturers and students at the beginning of lectures for the smooth and orderly learning process
The process of evaluating class implementation is a process that must be carried out by every lecture organizer. To ensure objectivity in evaluating lectures at the UMY English Language Education Study Program, the following provisions are made:
- Assessment is carried out thoroughly and continuously on the learning process and results in accordance with the characteristics of the subject concerned so that complete information is obtained
- The principle of assessment is based on an assessment of a complete learning system (mastery learning) which requires students to master competence (competent/pass) in each Basic Competency in a course, taking into account the semester credit system
- The courses assessed are in the form of knowledge courses.
- Assessment of learning is carried out by providing a type of formative assessment during the process of implementing learning (assessment for learning).
- Assessment of learning outcomes (competence test) is carried out by providing a type of summative assessment or competency assessment (assessment of learning) for each Basic Competence
- The final grade consists of a minimum of 4 value components that describe the course’s Competency Score plus a Softskill score
- Competency scores can be obtained from: Competency Tests, Quizzes, Structured/unstructured independent assignments. The task value is at least 20% of the total value included in each competency component, both in the form of individual and group assignments
- Softskill scores are obtained from: Memorizing verses/prayers, Papers, Presentations, Activeness, Discipline, etc. with a maximum of 10%.
