Tridharma of Higher Education covers three main points: teaching, community service, and research. In terms of research, publication becomes the obligation of every lecturer in Indonesia as a form of existence and contribution to the community. Knowing this, PBI UMY, as a study program that accredited A, cares about this. Therefore, PBI UMY held “A workshop on research: How to find current topics on research.” The event was held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, starting from 08.00 – 10.00 a.m. online via zoom platform and live broadcasted through the YouTube official account of PBI UMY. In addition, this event is a series of PKKM PBI UMY Grant Funding from Dikti.

In this event, PBI UMY invited speakers from Satya Widya Kencana University, Salatiga, namely Yustinus Calvin Gai Mali, Ph.D. The event opened with the welcome of the head of PBI UMY, Andi Wirantaka, M.Hum. In his speech, Andi hoped that this event would bring many benefits to PBI UMY lecturers. “The knowledge that we will get this morning will be useful for us as an academic and as professional,” Andi added.

In his session, Calvin presented several topics related to research and publication, including finding topics for research, navigating articles to be published, writing articles, and publishing articles in several journals. Furthermore, Calvin said that the problem often faced by academics and lecturers is a little time to write; therefore, the need for strategies to stay productive and work on writing journal articles is needed.

In addition, Calvin also conveyed about publishing articles in national and international journals. “For publication, we can check the government’s website, namely Sinta,” Calvin added. In addition, to publish articles, we can start from a consistent but straightforward stage. “Start by being sensitive to the issues in the classrooms. How is it? Then try to write and do it wholeheartedly even though it is a must-be-done task. For publication, you may try to publish in a smaller scope like a national journal, whether it is accredited or not. It is okay,” Calvin added. Hopefully, in this event, PBI UMY lecturers can get new knowledge and start practicing some tips from the speaker to be the ones who excel in scientific publications. (Mil)
