After holding Masa Ta’aruf (Mataf) online for two years in a row, the English Language Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (PBI UMY) finally held the event offline on (14/09). This activity serves as an introduction event for new students, introducing them to the study program environment through the theme “Evolving Prophetic Values for The Future”. As today’s young generation gets a lot of exposures and cultures from various resources, it is hoped that the program is able to keep them on the goodness and values of Islam.

104 new students of PBI UMY, grouped into ten kafilah, attended the event. The event started  at 07.30 a.m. and was held in the Amphitheater E7, the 5th floor of KH. Ibrahim Building UMY.

The event was also attended by the Head of PBI UMY, Andi Wirarantaka, S.Pd., M.Hum., who sent his greetings and message to the new PBI UMY 2022 students. He advised that PBI UMY students must become students who are passionate about studying, excellent in critical thinking, and supportive to the educational process in Indonesia.

Several segments enlivened the event, including introducing the lecturers, sharing sessions with core resource persons and alumni, introducing internal organizations, and showing performance from each kafilah. Salsabila Listya, the head of Mataf PBI UMY 2022, expects that with this Mataf, PBI UMY 2022 students are able to get to know PBI UMY further. In addition, he also hopes that PBI UMY 2022 students will be able to become students with noble character as educators and movers in the field of education.

One of the new PBI UMY students, Yudha, responded positively, saying that the Mataf PBI UMY had a good effect on him and ignited his interest in studying at PBI UMY. He also told his fellow PBI UMY new students that as new students, we have to study seriously and care for others. Thus, new students of PBI UMY 2022 can be an “extraordinary” person.
