Bridging Soft Skills PBI UMY Batch 2020: Kick The Conflict With Strong Motivation, Create Your Supporting System, And Be The Version of You

As a student, conflict during college can be an obstacle in achieving learning goals. Some conflicts, such as friendship conflicts, lecture conflicts, and some other conflicts beyond students’ control, can exist in college life. Therefore, PBI UMY took the theme “Conflict Management” in the second-day bridging event for the 2020 class. This event was attended by more than 130 PBI UMY students in the class of 2020 and PBI UMY lecturers. The event was opened by the Head of PBI UMY Department Program, Andi Wirantaka, S.Pd., M.Hum. Andi hoped that the knowledge obtained today could provide expertise and knowledge to progress. “I hope students can absorb knowledge from today’s speakers

,”  Andi concluded. On this second day, PBI UMY invited outstanding guest stars, namely Nadhira Nuraini Afiffa, a graduate of Harvard University for session one, Reni Shintasari, a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology of Cendrawasih University, for session two, and an alumnus of PBI UNY 2015, Heri Riskianto, S.Pd. in session three.

In her session, Nadhira shared her experience of studying at Harvard University and how she had to struggle to catch up with her friends’ graduation. Nadhira was moderated by one of PBI UMY lecturers, Ika Wahyuni Lestari., M.Hum. Nadhira also advised students to explore the ability and build networking by preparing a planned plan. “Start with you making a plan of what you want and will do today; gradually, it will become a long-term plan.” Added Nadhira. In addition, motivation also plays a role in designing the future. With strong motivation, if there is a problem, it will only be like a small thing. “Demotivation often occurs among students, therefore, as students start to create a supporting system always to motivate us,” Added Nadhira.

In the second session, Reni Shintasari talked about her experience as a lecturer in Papua, moderated by one of PBI UMY lecturers, Gendroyono, M.Pd. Different regions also have different conflicts, as experienced by Reni in Papua. She explained that disputes in the Papua area could come from students and culture. “The conflicts here are very diverse and very varied. Therefore we must be prepared for this dynamic wherever and whenever,” Added Reni.

In the final session, PBI UMY invited PBI UMY alumni who are currently Deputy Principals at Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Junior High School, Heri Riskianto, S.Pd. He shared his experience in college, work experience, and some conflicts that he faced. He advised PBI UMY students, especially students of the class of 2020, to always be solutive and creative as human beings, ready to be on standby for all kinds of things in front of us.
