Noven, A PBI UMY Student, the 2nd Winner of A National Microteaching Competition

Noven Tri Wandasari, a PBI’s student batch 2017 became the 1st runner up of a national microteaching competition. The competition was held by Students Activity Forum of Foreign Languages of Yogyakarta National University (SAFELUNY). Undergraduate and diploma students throughout Indonesia could participate in this competition.
First, participants had to make a lesson plan that followed the curriculum of 2013 and intended for junior and senior high school. There were 39 participants who registered, then the judges choose the 10 best lesson plans to be performed in a 30 minute microteaching at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). The final round was held on April, 27th 2019 at Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Noven taught a descriptive text of famous people for 1st grade of Junior High School. She chose to use a text-based instruction approach, specifically the joint construction phase in her microteaching. There were 3 juries who assessed the participants’ teaching performance. The panel of judges includes English teachers of junior and senior high school and a lecturer of English Language Education Department of UNY.
Noven said “I hope that becoming the 2nd winner will show that PBI UMY students can compete with other universities in Indonesia. I also hope my achievement can motivate other students of PBI UMY to join any kind of competition”.
