Two Students from PBI UMY (2017) Presented Their Paper at an Undergraduate Conference

Berli and Milad (2017) Presented Their Paper at Sanata Dharma University
Two students form PBI UMY, Berliana Dyah Ayu Aprilianti and Sibakhul Milad Malik Hidayatulloh (2017), have successfully joined an Undergraduate Conference, organized by English Letters Academic Club (ELAC) Sanata Dharma University on 21st of September, 2019. Their paper was entitled “Exploring The Motivation of English Language Education Department’s Freshmen to Take an English Major in One of Private University in Yogyakarta”. Berliana and Milad claimed that their research has aims to report the increasing number of freshmen in one of ELED in Yogyakarta, especially the freshmen’ motivation, ‘why do they choose English Education?’
Their paper was presentated in The 3rd English Letters Undergraduate Conference (ELUC) The conference day was on Saturday, 21st September 2019. Approximately twenty five (25) presenters presented their paper. The participants were from Sanata Dharma University, Politeknik Negeri Malang, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Madiun, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, and Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, among others.
Employing quantitative design, they inquired the freshmen suing open ended questionnaire which consisted of three questions: “How do you know about PBI UMY, “Why do you choose PBI UMY?” and “What do you want to be after graduate from PBI UMY?”. The results of their paper indicated that approximately 57% students who have enrolled PBI UMY chose PBI UMY because they have interest in English subject. The rest of the reasons are want to be an educator, forced by parents and they did not have any other options. Additionally, in making their research, a lecturer of PBI UMY, Arifah Mardiningrum, M.A. supervised them.
Berliana stated, “We are interested to make a research and we felt motivated when we were watching the presenters presented their research”.
