Awarding Night of ELED of UMY Competitions

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, the awarding ceremony of a series of English Language Education Department competitions was held. The event took place from 4 p.m to 5 p.m. in KH Ibrahim Building. In the ceremony, awards of several competitions that took place in April were presented for the winners. The competitions included debate competition, English essay competition, and creative ideas competition. The participants of the competitions were 69 students of English Language Education Department (ELED) UMY batch 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The winners of the competitions were announced in this occasions. The first winner for debate competition was Class B 2015 which were represented by Hikmatika R. Ohoirat, Aisyah Ganesh Ratnasari and Clarita Ayu Windayanti. The runner up was Class F 2017 who was represented by Laila Yuni Istiqomah, Masita and Ririn Anggraini. Hikmatika was also selected as the best speaker of the competition. As for the essay competition, the awards were presented to Noven T. Werdasari (B 2017) as the first winner, Annisa Larasati (C 2015) as the second winner and Tria Novianti (A 2015) as the third winner. As for the creative ideas competition, the only one award was presented to Raihannil Jannah (B 2016) who wrote a creative idea essay entitled “Media Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Untuk Anak Dengan Pendengaran Spesial”. Besides trophies and certificate,the winners also received cash mony for their academic development. In addition to the winners of the competitions, a special award of student of the year was presented to Wildan Putra P. Kharisma (B 2016), to appreciate him being the Mahasiswa Berprestasi (Outstanding Student) representing ELED for this year’s competition.
One of winners, Aisyah, mentioned “ We, as student, do appreciate the conduct of the competitions. We believe that it can increase our potential and talent. And, also good for academic atmoshpere in ELED UMY.” The head of the department, Sri Rejeki Murtiningsih, Ph.D. shared her hopes, “These competitions hopefully can be held anually and can be a place for the students to showcase their talent and passion in writing and debating. Hopefully, more studnets can be more motivated and more confidents to join external competitions after joining these internal ones.”
