Asta Abyakta : Supporting Students’ Potential Growth through Milad PBI 2018

The English Department Student Association (EDSA) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta has celebrated 8th anniversary of ELED Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The theme of the event was “Asta Abyakta” which means “8 Years Growing of PBI UMY”. The anniversary gala was held on December 15th, 2018 from 06.45 p.m. until 10.00 p.m at UMY Boga.
Wildan Kharisma, The Chief of EDSA mentioned that the anniversary celebration, which consisted of competitions, aimed at supporting students’ potential growth. “All of Milad PBI’s competition aim to choose talents from PBI which will be sent as participants both internal and external competitions to represent PBI”, said Wildan.
Various competitions were organized before The Awarding Night, including curricular and extra-curricular competitions. The curricular extra-competitions include male and female indoor football, badminton, Qur’an recitation, Qur’an memorization poster and t-shirt design, acoustic music, company profile video, photography, hand lettering, and prince and princess dress-up. The extra-curricular activities include debate, story telling, micro-teaching, and speech. Those competitions started from October 8th until December 2nd, 2018.
Sri Rejeki Murtiningsih, P.hD., the Head of English Language Education Department hoped that PBI would be a great department and have a lot of students who are talented. “After this, I hope PBI will have great students who they can join several competition outside PBI as the representative of PBI UMY”. The event was hoped to strengthen the bond between students, lecturers, and alumni from year to year.
